Picture of Christina-Apr 1993

The Williams Family

Christina was born on 1 May 1985 in Okinawa, Japan. She is our third child. The oldest, Jennifer, is 18 and currently lives in Joplin, Mo. Her brother Michael is 16 and a Junior at Seaside High School. Alice and I have been married for 19 years. I have been a U.S. Navy Chief Aerographer (Meteorologist/Oceanographer) for the past 22 years while Alice, who is from the Philippines, works at the Hyatt. We just arrived in the Monterey area last Novemeber, coming from a 3-year tour in Yokosuka, Japan. Before that we were stationed in Hawaii (82-85, 91-94), Philippines (78-81, 88-91) and Okinawa, Japan (85-88). This is the first time our family has ever lived in the mainland U.S.

To describe Christina is to describe what I would call the "perfect" child. She is always concerned about everyone, going out of her way to help the people she loves and cares for. Always courteous, kind and a hard-worker, who always tries to do the best she can. A "B" average student who always receives excellent comments from her teachers. I was once asked by a reporter if she had any discipline problem at home. After trying to remember any, I came to realize that (as far as I can recall) we never have had to disipline her. I don't believe we have ever even had to send her to her room or "ground" her. All of our children are special, but there is something different about Christina. She has a special gift that she has shared with us during the past 13 years-a gift that is on hold until she is safely returned where she belongs. Then she can share her special gift with the world.

Christina has two passions, music and animals. The first one, music, is something she has loved, for as long as we can remember. She has been in the school chorus for the past 3 years. Last year (her first year here at Seaside) she was selected to be part of the Monterey County Honor Chorus. She loves music and singing which she does beautifully. As with most 13-year old girls, her favorite musicians are Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Spice Girls, Celine Dion and Ace of Base. She listens and sings along with their CD's or music videos all the time.

Her second passion is animals. For Christmas she was given an aquarium which she has taken care of religiously, always checking the water chemistry and changing a portion of the water every three weeks-doing all the things most people have to be reminded of. She is so very responsible and diligent. For her birthday she wanted a dog. After going to the SPCA to see what was available, she went home and did research on the characteristics of the different breeds to determine what kind of a dog she wanted. She choose a 9 1/2 month old Australian Shepherd and Collie mix named "Greg". Again, being the ever responsible owner, she groomed, fed and walked Greg each and every day. Her normal after-school routine was to play with Greg once she got home, do her homework, and then walk Greg before supper, normally around 5:30 to 6:30 PM, and always for 15-20 minutes. At 7:30 PM on June 12th, Greg wanted to go on another walk so he brought his leash over to Christina, and off into a beautiful sunny Monterey evening she left with Greg. By 8pm my wife and son began to search for Christina, but only found Greg at about 8:20 trailing his leash. The rest is the nightmare which Christina and our family have been living now for the past 3 1/2 months. If only dogs could talk....
